Amsterdam – On Friday March 10, 2023, the new solo exhibition Faassen Fashion Show from the Amsterdam-based illustrator Paul Faassen will open. During the past 25 years, while illustrating for magazines and newspapers, he commented on the fashion industry on every occasion, making drawings, cartoons, and photos, using his sharp insights full of humour. I love Illustration Gallery will show a selection of these, together with a number of new watercolour birds; The Fashion Birds
During the last years, Faassen drew a lot about the relationship between human and not-human animals. The line between those two gets thinner with every scientific research, but one big difference remains: fashion!

To Faassen himself, this is also important. “I prefer walking around with clothes on, rather then without them.”
To him, clothes are a way to make life richer, and to express an identity. "Fashion is a wonderful art. Beautiful clothes brighten up your day and your essence. And yet there is a love/hate relationship, because of the way consumers and producers have lost reality, and made the industry very polluting and too focused on money-making."
Besides the original watercolours there will be limited and unlimited prints for purchase available.
Paul Faassen
Paul Faasen studied on the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg. In 1995 he started to work as a freelance illustrator at ELLE, Quote, Vrij Nederland, NRC, VPRO gids and other magazines. His image-comments are published in Volkskrant Magazine and De Morgen. Paul Faassen teaches at the Arts Academy in Utrecht is also co-curator of the Drawings Festival “A perfect day”, which is organized since 2012. He made his first book called “Niets meer aan doen” (leave it as it is), and others have been published afterwards. A couple of years ago he started to make photos of museum visitors and he draws watercolours of birds, as seen in his book “Eh…”

DE HALLEN AMSTERDAM
De Hallen Amsterdam is located in West, near the center, between the Kinkerstraat, the Bellamyplein, the Tollensstraat and the Ten Katemarkt. The Gallery is located at the small passage in De Hallen with the entrance at the Bilderdijkkade!! From De Hallen parking space go LEFT, walk through and find the gallery at the next passsage on number 5.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Line 7 from Leidseplein; line 17 from Central Station. Trams stop at the Bilderdijkstraat, Kinkerstraat, Ten Katemarkt stop.
BY CAR:
De Hallen has a public parking garage. The entrance to the parking garage is located at Bellamyplein. Parking costs 3 euros per hour, a day ticket costs 27 euros. Pay only via chip or pin. From the parking space go LEFT to find the gallery on number 5.
BY BICYCLE:
There is a free bicycle shed under the library.
