French allure in Amsterdam!
On November 28, during Amsterdam Art Gallery Weekend, the solo exhibition of Margot van Huijkelom opened. This internationally renowned artist draws fashionable women on handmade paper, seductive and powerful at the same time.
Since the 1990s, the beautiful Dutch artist Margot van Huijkelom (1966) has lived and worked in Barbizon, a commune in the French department of Seine-et-Marne (Île-de-France region) on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest. Already in the 19th century, this region was a haven for painters.
Japanese touch
After graduating from the ArtEz Fashion Academy in Arnhem in 1990, Margot van Huijkelom left for Paris to work as a fashion illustrator. She develops a fondness for Japan and spends several years there. This resulted in many commissions for her, including Japanese Vogue and l'Officiel Japan. She also works for Harrods Magazine and Journal le Monde, for which she draws interpretations of the shows of Dior, Valentino and Chanel during the Haute Couture Shows. Her drawings on handmade paper depict fashionable women, seductive and powerful at the same time.
Solo exhibition in Amsterdam
It is the very first time that this internationally renowned artist has a solo exhibition in the Netherlands. Her work was also recently shown at the L'Atelier le Neérlandais exhibition, in the chic spaces of the Dutch Embassy in Paris, where the designs of Iris van Herpen were also exhibited. Margot created 35 new works especially for the I love Illustration Gallery. - Text by Elleke van Duin
A beautiful ode to the woman and her femininity.
